The Veritas line from Abu Garcia has positioned itself very competitively in the market by producing a high quality rod, in a wide range of applications. With rods stretching from 6′ med/light action small mouth bass smashing spinning rods, all the way up to 8’6″(and 9ft!) heavy action baitcasting crane polls for hoisting the heaviest large mouth bass out of the thickest cover.
Why Do I Need One?
Having most the the Veritas lineup coming in around the $100 mark makes these rods pretty irresistible to someone like me who prefers to have multiple setups kicking around on the deck of my bass boat or in the back of my truck. The affordability allows you to grab a few different rods and build your self some “specialty” setups, rather than dropping huge dollars on a single rod, then trying to make it a “do everything” rod and reel.
Why Are They SO Good?
Abu Garcia has really knocked it out of the park when they designed and built the Veritas lineup. They have employed a construction technique they call “30 ton construction with Sub Layer armor” now, they don’t ever tell you exactly what that is, and believe me, I don’t know either – but what I do know, is these rods feel great in your hand, have good balance and the sensitivity level for the money is fantastic.
As I have mentioned before, build quality on these rods is great as well, they’ve obviously used good components putting them together like titanium guides with zirconium inserts (isn’t that Superman’s weakness?), ratcheting & locking reel seats and a nice EVA grip set. One feature I don’t love on these rods is the baitkeeper, but hey, it’s better than not having one…
The Bottom Line
The Veritas lineup from Abu Garcia is awesome value for the money. I own many far more expensive rods than my Veritas, but I’m always using it, and any time I’m in my local tackle shop I’m not eyeing up another $400 rod, I’m fighting off the urge to buy another Veritas…
